New online weather station set up at Water Resources Field Station

By Gary Robbins

A new, online UConn weather station is up and running. Professor Gary Robbins and Associate Professor Thomas Meyer, both in the Department of Natural Resources and the Environment, set up the station with assistance from University Facilities, geoscience graduate student Dariusz Chlebica, and Phillip Caron, network/LIMS administrator in the Center for Environmental Sciences and Engineering. The station is located at the Water Resources Field Station on the Storrs Campus. In addition to real-time weather monitoring, the station allows for the archiving of weather data. Archived data can be downloaded from the weather station Web site in text files. The data will be used in classes for exercises in evaluating how ground water levels respond to rainfall events. Real-time ground water level data will likely be available on the site by spring 2011. Click here to go to the web site. You can also get there by going to the Department of Natural Resources and the Environment’s web site and clicking the link to “Weather at Storrs Campus.”
